Regional Books

Pittsburgh and the greater western Pennsylvania region are rich with history, culture, and competitive spirit. From the earliest colonial settlements to the Whiskey Rebellion to the Industrial Revolution and beyond, Pittsburgh has often played a central role in the evolution of America. The University of Pittsburgh Press publishes titles focused on our region across a variety of disciplines, including history, culture, arts, biography, and sports. Our regional titles have won a number of awards, including the Society of Architectural Historians’ Antoinette Forrester Downing Book Award, the Carnegie Science Award, the Pennsylvania Historical Association’s Philip S. Klein Book Prize, the National Outdoor Book Award, and other honors. With especially strong foci on early western Pennsylvania history, industrial history, labor history, and local environmental studies, the Press strives to illuminate the past and present so that we may move forward with clear vision.
