On September 19th, the University of Pittsburgh Press and author Patricia M. DeMarco celebrated the publication of her book Pathways to Our Sustainable Future: A Global Perspective from Pittsburgh. An enthusiastic crowd of about 100 filled the Tropical Forest area of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland.

Attendees included Max King, President and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation and his wife Peggy, David Feingold, President of Chatham University, Bernard Goldstein, former Dean of the Pitt Graduate School of Public Health and Member of the National Academy of Sciences and his wife Rossalyn, Terry Collins, Theresa Heinz Professor of Green Chemistry at the Institute for Green Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, Kathy Hrabovsky, Chief Sustainability Officer for Allegheny County, Elise Yanders, Head of The Yanders Group at Merrill Lynch, along with family, friends, colleagues, and students of Patty DeMarco. All were entertained by the lively percussive sounds of Abafasi, a Pittsburgh drum band. Following an introduction by Phipps Executive Director Richard Piacentini, DeMarco spoke about her book, and her wish that readers be filled with empowerment and hope regarding the environmental challenges of the twenty-first century.

DeMarco was all smiles as she spoke with her supporters, receiving praise and congratulations for her book. She happily signed dozens of copies of Pathways, and was heard making plans for future speaking engagements and presentations.
